A Mug Cake in a Self-Designed Christmas Mug

It’s usually the small things in life that bring us joy. The same holds true for small attentions to detail during the Christmas season. Whether at a Christmas celebration with friends or work colleagues or as a party favour for family while celebrating at home, this small present, if also filled with something sweet, is sure to be a hit.

A mug cake in a self-designed Christmas mug is a completely personalised and loving gift that also happens to taste great. In this article you’ll not only find creative ideas on how to design your own Christmas photo mug, but also tasty recipes for baking a mug cake.

Designing Your ifolor Christmas Photo Mug

On the ifolor website you’ll find the photo mug as the first option under the photo gifts menu. You can immediately design and order your mug on the website without having to download any additional software. Start out by choosing the orientation of your photo mug. You’ll have the choice of left- or right-handed as well as panorama.

The next step is choosing your design. You’ll find various design templates on our website, including special Christmas templates. The ready-made templates have placeholders for photos and text. This makes it easy to design your individualised Christmas mug in just a few clicks. For a bit of a simple design you could choose the “panorama” layout and the photo will cover almost the entire mug. Landscape and panoramic photos are especially well showcased in this layout. Depending on which template you choose, you can arrange up to ten photos on your mug - here you’ll have no limits on your creativity.

There are many beautiful design templates available that are perfect for Christmas. Go with the “Snowflakes” template for an especially classic and modest photo mug. This template gives you space to add one of your photos and personalised text. Winter landscapes are especially well suited for this template.

If you’d like to go with a more playful design, you could arrange three portrait photos in the “Three merry snowmen” template. Snapshots of friends or close-up photos of the last Christmas celebration with the family work really well here.

After adding your own photo(s) to your mug, you can give it the finishing touch by adding your own personalised text. You could add short Christmas sayings, poems, songs, or simply “Happy Christmas” written in English and perhaps several other languages. The “Snowflakes” template is available in Christmassy red or wintery blue. This template allows you to add your own personalised text instead of a photo. Use this space to add Christmas greetings or the recipe you used for your Christmas mug cake.

If you’d like to integrate text in a template that does not come with a text field, you could use external image-editing programs. You could design an attractive small gift by choosing the “Collage, white” template and adding a mix of text and photos. In just a few steps you can add your text to a single-colour background by using just about any free image-editing program. When saving this file after finished editing, you should make sure to save it in the “JPEG” file format so it can be recognised as an image on the ifolor website.

After you’ve filled each of the placeholders, you’ll end up with an individualised small gift that you won’t be able to find in any store.

The Sweet Contents of the Christmas Photo Mug

Mug cakes have been gaining in popularity over the years. These mini-cakes can be made in just a few minutes and taste amazing even with such a short prep time. You could bring the cake packed in your mug as a small gift to a Christmas celebration or use your mug to serve dessert to your own guests after dinner. Alternatively, you could give each of your family members one of these self-designed mugs so they’ll have something to take home that will always remind them of the wonderful time spent celebrating Christmas together.

Another option is to pack all of the dry ingredients of the cake recipe layered on one another in a see-through bag and place this in the mug. You can make filling the bag with the ingredients easier by first placing the bag in the mug. Once you’ve put all the dry ingredients in the bag, you should securely close up the bag and, if so desired, decorate with a ribbon. Afterwards, write a small message to the recipient of the mug including the fresh ingredients that need to be added and write out the recipe of the cake. Then the recipient will be able to quickly and easily bake their own mug cake in your self-designed photo mug.

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking power
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 medium-sized egg
  • Optional: a spiced biscuit

Apple Cinnamon Mug Cake

  • 1/4 of an apple
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 medium-sized egg
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon fine oat flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream or milk

Wash and peel the apple and cut into small pieces. Baste these with the lemon juice. Melt the butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds at 300 watts. Cover the container with the butter inside to ensure it doesn’t splatter.

Put the egg and sugar in the mug. Then beat the egg with the sugar vigorously for about a minute. Then add the flour, oat flakes, cinnamon, baking powder, cream, and butter and mix together. Finally, add the apple pieces on top of the dough and bake the mixture in the microwave for about 1.5 minutes at 800 watts.

Once the mug cakes are ready, we hope you, your friends, and/or family enjoy these sweet delectables!
