ifolor has been operating CO2-neutrally since 2011: the ecological footprint is minimised and unavoidable emissions are offset 1:1. For this, Swiss Climate has awarded the company the “CO2 Neutral” label for the ninth time.
ifolor has ensured climate-neutral business operations since 2011. At the time, the Swiss family business headquartered in Kreuzlingen set itself the goal of reducing its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2020. This target was already exceeded in 2018 (-56% compared with 2011). According to the latest report on ifolor’s CO2 management, prepared by Swiss Climate for the 2019 reporting year, ifolor’s business activities caused emissions amounting to 694 t CO2 last year.
ifolor’s measures to reduce CO2 Five core measures to reduce CO2 were identified. Firstly, disposable wooden boards are disposed of separately, employees are encouraged to continue avoiding business flights, the aluminium panels of HD Metal Prints are recycled, the heating system is continuously optimised and the use of solar collectors is being examined. “We are aware of our responsibility for a healthy environment. In everyday life and in the small details, we are always looking for potential improvements for the careful and sustainable use of natural resources,” says ifolor Quality Manager Andreas Schmidt. A customer survey showed that customers do not consider the plastic protective film on calendars to be absolutely necessary. ifolor therefore adapted the production process and has dispensed with it completely since the end of July 2020. In autumn 2020, ifolor also took part in the “Bike to Work” challenge as a contribution to minimising emissions from commuting. Anyone who came to work on foot, by bicycle or similar means such as skateboard or scooter on at least half of the working days had the chance to win prizes worth more than CHF 140,000.
Supporting sustainable projects To fully offset the 694 t CO2 released in 2019 through ifolor’s business activities, ifolor is investing in three sustainable Swiss Climate projects. On the one hand, families in Ghana are supplied with energy-efficient cookers that massively reduce the need for fossil fuels and thereby save CO2 emissions. In addition, ifolor supports a rainforest protection project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which protects 1,900 km2 of rainforest from conversion into subsistence agriculture, and a project in the canton of Schwyz, where 73 km2 of forest are managed sustainably, serving CO2 storage, the preservation of biodiversity and the production of energy wood for renewable energy generation.
