First Steps: 5 Tips for Planning Your Dream Wedding

With an Extensive Checklist for Wedding Planning

An old German proverb says, ‘All beginnings are difficult.’ The planning of a wedding presents a particularly daunting challenge to many couples. Although choosing the date may not be so hard, questions of locale, flower décor, or the cake have made many the merry pair break out in a sweat.

To help you keep your cool and maintain perspective before, during, and after the wedding, we’ve delivered five tips, as well as an extensive checklist you’ll need in the months, weeks, and days leading up to your wedding.

    Complete Wedding Planning Checklist:

Tip 1: Enjoy the euphoria and collect inspiration

Directly after your engagement you should enjoy the time together and look forward to the upcoming event. It is best to start with a broad search for ideas. Spend a few days looking through magazines, searching the internet, or even going to a wedding fair. Make a note of all the things you like. Organising your ideas will come later.

You can find some wedding inspiration here:

    • Wedding magazines
    • Wedding Fairs
    • Pinterest
    • Facebook Groups
    • Instagram
    • Wedding Blogs

    Tip

Use a picture search engine like Pinterest for your wedding idea-collection. Also, Instagram offers ideas around decoration, DIY, wedding dress search and much more under the hashtag #weddinginspiration. Save your ideas into folders or on pinboards, so they are always in reach.

Tip 2: Write down common ideas

Now it's time to sort all the thoughts and ideas. Sit down together and think about how you imagine your wedding.

You should clarify the important questions:

    • When do you want to get married?
    • Where do you want to get married?
    • How do you want to get married? (civil, church, free marriage)
    • How big should the wedding be?
    • Who should be invited?

Everyone must be allowed to give their suggestions and wishes. If your opinions differ, try to find a compromise. Also prioritise which points you want to take care of first and what you want to do yourself or where you need some help. The wedding date and the choice of location should be decided early on, while things like gift lists, and childcare can wait.

For those who prefer to use digital tools, there are plenty of apps or online tools that can help with the planning and ideas. Examples include ‘The Big Day’, ‘MyWed’ or ‘Weddyplace’ help with managing wedding to-do lists, budget planning, and guest management.

    Tip 3: Create wedding folder

A good idea is to create a folder and file everything to do with wedding planning on one place. Start off with filing all your ideas in the folder, later it can be used to store and organise important documents. The folder will keep all your reservation confirmations, birth certificates, or paid bills at your fingertips and you won’t loos track.
